GREENHOUSE 2005 Sponsors

Platinum Sponsor

The Australian Greenhouse Office, part of the Department of the Environment and Heritage, delivers the majority of programmes under the Australian Government's $1.8 billion climate change strategy.

Gold Sponsor

The Victorian Government is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of Greenhouse 2005 - an important opportunity to raise awareness of climate change and to support the development of solutions in partnership with the scientific and business communities.

It is now widely understood and accepted that climate change due to the enhanced greenhouse effect, poses a serious threat to the world community. Evidence continues to mount that our climate is changing, that human activities are responsible for this change, and that the impacts on the world's environment, societies and economies will be detrimental.

The Victorian Government believes that, in the face of this evidence, we cannot continue on a business-as-usual path. We need to accept that the future will be different from today, and to look for opportunities to build a future that sustains economic growth while transitioning to a low carbon economy.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring Victoria plays its part in national and international efforts to address the threat of climate change.

Specifically, CSIRO CLIMATE acts on behalf of all CSIRO scientists, teams and Divisions undertaking relevant work. CSIRO CLIMATE catalyses the formation of strong, interdisciplinary teams and facilitates and encourages active engagement with external researchers and stakeholders. The Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting brings new understandings of the potential of forests, farms and grasslands to play a long-term role in mitigating climate change. The Centre researches plant responses to climate change, how different land use and management techniques affect the production of greenhouse gases, and agricultural practices to minimise greenhouse gas emissions while maximising productivity. The CRC also investigates the storage of carbon in wood products. Its research findings inform the development of greenhouse policy, provide the basis for improved agricultural and business practices, and reduce risk for farmers, horticulturalists, foresters, and natural resource managers.
